At The Peak we're always looking for a better way to do things.
There are a variety of ways to listen to 107.1 The Peak over the internet and mobile devices.

The easiest is to click the image below and open a browser window (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox - works in all popular browsers) and listen immediately on your computer (PC or Mac.)

Some of you may want access the stream directly through another application. That's perfectly OK. Our main stream is encoded HE-AACv1 (also called aacPLUS) and can be decoded by the latest versions of many popular applications including Winamp 5+, Windows Media Player 12, and iTunes 9. Earlier versions of those programs won't work. QuickTime support is coming very soon. We've chosen this encoding format on account of its vastly superior sound. It really is the latest and greatest and much better than MP3 from a pure sound quality standpoint. The highs sound better and the music is much fuller.

Here is the URL to access The Peak's HE-AACv1 stream directly:

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WXPKFMAAC.pls

In most programs, this is what you'll enter when you go to Play (or Open) URL.

We're very aware that not everyone can decode and listen to this format, so we're also making available an MP3 encoded stream for Sonos and Shoutcast users. We are listed in the general Shoutcast directories if you are already a user.

Here is the URL to access the The Peak's MP3 stream directly: http://nyc01.egihosting.com:7128

If you can use the HE-AACv1 stream we strongly recommend it . The sound is just so much better at the same bitrate (64kbps.)

Mobile Listening:

We are currently developing custom applications for both iPhone and Blackberry owners.

In the meantime, you can absolutely listen to The Peak on your iPhone/iTouch, Blackberry and most other mobile phones with a browser. Just make sure you have an unlimited data plan with your provider or this could get very expensive. Here's how you do it.

iPhone/iTouch:

You have a bunch of options. Either free, or by using a few different low cost apps that are readily available in the Apple App store.

Free: Shoutcast or Moodio or Fstream

To use Shoutcast, just download the free app, install, and search "WXPK" and off you go. It uses the MP3 stream so the sound is not the best it could be, but still very good at 64kbps.

To use Moodio, get on your home computer and go to www.moodio.fm. Register and write down your username and password. After you have done that, select a few stations including WXPK -107.1 The Peak (you'll have to search for it.) Once done log out. Then, from your iPhone (or Blackberry) go to www.m.moodio.fm and login with the user name and password you just created. The stations you selected will come up in the browser window. Click on "107.1 The Peak" and after a short delay you'll be listening through the native media player on your phone! Also, make sure to save the bookmark so you can return without having to login with username and password each time.

To use FStream, download it from the App Store. Create a favorite preset for The Peak and use the HE-AACv1 URL above. I use this and it works great. I highly recommend it! Absolutely free and takes advantage of the best sound.

Not Free: Tuner2 or Eingrad Internet RadioBOX

There are a number of apps for iTouch and iPhone that will also decode the HE-AACv1 stream like FStream does. The best is Tuner2 and it costs $8.99 as of this writing. Another is Eingrad Internet RadioBOX which is less expensive but doesn't take full advantage of the HE-AACv1 encoding. Find them both (and others) in the App Store.

Blackberry and other mobile phones:

The best solution so far is Moodio. There are a few apps that will decode the stream but I don't recommend them after trying them all on a Blackberry Curve. Again we are working on a custom app but it is still under development. To use, just follow the Moodio directions above - works the same on both iPhone and all versions of Blackberry - any mobile device with a browser and internet connectivity.

Any questions? I'm always happy to help! Email me here and I'll get back to you.
